Are You Proud to Be an American?
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Romans 13:11 (ESV)
ME: Why do I feel so wishy-washy? It’s like I can’t come up with a consistent answer to that question.
JESUS: Talk to Me!
ME: Sometimes I am very grateful to live here in America but that isn’t the same as being proud. What the country was founded upon is like wobbly toothpicks now and I think other countries make fun of us.
JESUS: Yes, there are a number of reasons I’ve birthed and raised you in America. This is the place I chose for you. Are you dissatisfied?
ME: Of course not! I just don’t like some of the decisions that Americans make but maybe that is none of my business.
JESUS: Well, My precious child, on that point you are very wrong. It is your business to make biblical choices, pray, and speak My Words. To throw your hands up in the air and say’ “It is what it is!” has never been My plan for you. I gave you a tender heart, the ability to think clearly, and the desire to fight for the right. What else do you need?
ME: To be honest, I want to know that America is going to come out of this looking better.
JESUS: Better than what?
ME: Ummm…better than it looks today. I want Americans to feel hopeful and have a sense of pride and ownership.
JESUS: I have a plan. No one moves to any level of leadership without My placement. I have kingdom authority.
ME: That is a hard pill to swallow because that means that sometimes we disagree about what is best for America.
JESUS: That is very true. But you are not in charge.
ME: Okay! I got that message but how about being the laughingstock of the world? That is embarrassing.
JESUS: It doesn’t seem to bother Me. You must trust Me, my child. You are Mine and I bought you with a very high price. Please let Me be your sovereign Lord. Stop trying to crawl up here on the throne with Me.
ME: Ouch!
JESUS: Mankind makes daily mistakes, but My plan stands firm. What you dislike is only a tiny sliver of America. Be aware of your blessings.
ME: I am – More than proud, I'm a very grateful, free American!
