The Gift of a Day
Forget the former things and do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up, do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19
ME: Jesus, sometimes it isn’t easy to forget my past because that is what has made me who I am today.
JESUS: That is not exactly a true statement. What I have done with the messes you created is what your are today. You cannot leave me out of this equation! Without me, your life would have been cut short many years ago. However, because of my plans and deep love, you are still here. And today really is a gift – each breath you take is a gift from Me. Never underestimate My generosity.
ME: Jesus, You almost sound irritated. Did I say or do something wrong?
JESUS: No, My precious child. You and all mankind tend to forget My gifts and when you do, you also neglect to praise Me. “Worthy am I, your Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for I created all things, and by My will they existed and were created.” (Revelation 4:11, ESV).
ME: I get it! We are supposed to make a joyful noise to You, all the earth! Serve You with gladness! Come into Your presence with singing! Know that You are God! It is You who made us, and we are Yours; we are Your people, and the sheep of Your pasture. Enter Your gates with thanksgiving, and Your courts with praise! Give thanks to You; bless Your name! For the You are good; Your steadfast love endures forever, and Your faithfulness to all generations (Psalm 100:1-5, ESV).
JESUS: Yes, but there is more to it. You must stop living in the past. I am only found in the present and I desire you live there as well. I am doing a new thing and you will be amazed but you must walk with Me today, right now, to perceive it. A day is a short period of time so let Me ask, What are you doing with My gift?
ME: Jesus, I’m not sure that I know how to just live in the present.
JESUS: Trust Me! Your complete trust in Me will help you keep in step this year.
ME: I want Your promises and gifts more than anything else.
JESUS: Great news! Be alert and ready for change as I sprinkle blessings along your pathway.
