Topsy Turvy
Even if the fig tree does not blossom, and there is no fruit on the vines, if the yield of the olive fails, and the fields produce no food, even if the flock disappears from the fold, and there are no cattle in the stalls, yet I will triumph in the LORD, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation. Habakkuk:17-19 (NASB)
When we least expect it, everything can turn upside down in a single heartbeat—and that happens very fast. We have all these great ideas, plans, and routines when suddenly, that door is closed and locked. Whether it is downsizing, layoffs, health issues, infidelity, costly car/house repairs, loss of a loved one, or a soured relationship, we are blindsided, and our routine life abruptly halts. It is quite possible that all these things are out of our control. They simply happen.
What’s next? Before we go into a state of shock, we need to rejoice in the God of our salvation. Sounds impossible but it’s written in God’s holy Word, therefore it must be true. Doing it is another story. When our world has just fallen apart, from where do we find the courage and strength to praise Him? Our immediate response is to question ‘why’ and we even feel a little angry. Our thoughts might be something like this: ‘You are supposed to love me. Why did you let this happen?’
Triumph in the Lord! Yes, you read that correctly. My own personal interpretation of this means to put all your trust in Him. He has a better plan. Without trust, we are left with anger, pity, loneliness, and our own ridiculous thoughts. That’s not a place in which we want to be found.
We need reminders of who He is.
· Omnipotent: Means all-powerful, and that God is not subject to physical limitations.
· Omnipresent: Means that God is always everywhere.
· Omniscient: Means that God is all-knowing, of past, present, and future.
· Omnibenevolent: Means that God is all-good or all-loving.
This being the truth, He did not cause these traumatic changes. He remains a constant sustainer to carry us through each situation. We can take comfort knowing that He is fully aware of all details; therefore, we must call upon Him with trusting hearts.
Triumph in the Lord and rejoice in the God of your salvation.
Loving Lord, thank You for loving us even though we don’t always feel Your Presence or love. Help us to remember who You are all the time, so we are not thrown for a loop when difficult times come upon us. Teach us how to trust You more. AMEN.
