What's Next?
Even to your old age and gray hair, I am He. I am He who sustains you. Isaiah 46:4
By now, we are packing up Christmas. But then what? If we made New Year’s resolutions, hopefully we will be in the 22% that will keep them at least three months (Google). Perhaps the better question should be this: What needs improving and how are we going to pull it off in 2025?
Google defines a resolution as a firm decision to do or not to do something. How we frame our goals for this new year makes all the difference in our success or personal failures. Most of us have set our expectations at an unattainable level. “I’m going to lose fifty pounds this year!” Maybe we should be a little gentler and say, “With His help, I’m going to be healthier.”
Resolutions are close akin to promises. It’s better not to make resolutions (promises) that we know are too lofty. The wording of these pledges is vitally important. What if we make a vow to dig deeper into His Word in 2025? How about if we spend more time in prayer? Maybe we could tithe. Can we improve the condition of our hearts? Could we forgive those who have hurt us (physically, verbally, and/or emotionally)? How about showing more kindness? Smiling more? Giving with no strings attached?
So often we forget that He sustains us and makes all these things doable. In our humanness, we tend to make things too difficult and then we fly off the rails. Just knowing that with His help every single one of these things listed above is possible, brings peace and joy to my heart. How about you?
What’s next? If we change just one thing this year, the others will come along and there will be an avalanche of love. It’s time for a fresh start because with Him, all things are possible.
Gracious God, thank You for showing us Your never-ending love. Help us to be more like You and use Your wisdom for changes in this year. AMEN.
