Living Water Never Freezes

Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ John 7:38 (ESV)

My curiosity gets the better of me in the cold winter when I see ice clinging to rock surfaces. The frozen formations seem thick and huge. Why don’t we see all that running water in the warm weather? Is there that much water dripping from the crevices?

Have you ever been curious about living water?  I do know that living water never, ever freezes. But what is it? Google says this: “In the Bible, "living water" is a metaphor for the spiritual nourishment and salvation that Jesus Christ offers. It's a way of describing the Holy Spirit, who gives life to believers and enables them to share God's love with others.  …In the Old Testament, the blessing of the Messiah was promised in terms of living water. In Revelation, the river of life flows out from under the throne of God.”

What does all this mean to us? Please take a moment for a big pause and think about this. There is so much love available to us. It’s a river that never runs dry and it is like ever-flowing love. In Ephesians 3:18, Paul prays that we would have the power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Can we wrap our minds around this? Probably not. Do we feel it? Sometimes. Are we grateful?

It is one thing to know about the living water but it is quite another to step into it. How deep is it—over our head? Presumably it is! We need to be washed completely clean. Will the current be too strong and sweep us away? Again, yes, because we need to distance ourselves from our past sins. I have asked many questions but it is vitally important to your spiritual health to ponder these and even seek answers to your own questions.

Don’t be bashful about asking Him for help to enter into His river of life. What awaits you is beyond your wildest imagination. Invite someone to join you. There is plenty of room for everyone.

In the meantime, know that you are deeply loved.
