I Still Remember

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 1 John 5:17 (ESV)

While looking through one of my favorite magazines, Country Door, I found this framed picture they had placed above a picturesque bed with all kinds of country themed accents. The sign read as follows: I still remember the days I prayed for what I have now. Wow! I could end this devotion right here and ask that you ponder this for a day or two.

Do you recall those days? Weeks, months or even years when parenting toddlers to teenagers seemed impossible! How many times did you utter prayers asking for help, guidance, wisdom…and some alone time just to have a few moments of peace and quiet? And they grew up! Now that they’re out of the house, do you miss those chaotic, funny, challenging, and loving moments?

Maybe you can think back to when you were very sick with a life-threatening illness. You prayed (along with many others) to feel better and have your health restored. If you have a chronic physical issue, I’m sure there have been many pleas to take it away or to give you the strength and courage to endure.

Remember when you prayed for the golden days of retirement? For many, these days are now filled with new activities that bring satisfaction to the soul. How about the appeals just to make it to the next paycheck and have enough money to pay all the bills? And now you have money in savings.

Reminisce about your desires to find a church where you were/are comfortable and fit in; where your spiritual gifts are being used and appreciated. It all started with a desire to belong. You shared your thoughts with Him and look where you are!

For many of us, we hoped for that special person to spend our lives with. We dreamed of a spouse that would love us and care for us. The wait was worth it!

I still remember the days I prayed for what I have now. Be thankful for what you have today. It may not look like what you thought it would or be perfect, but it is sufficient.

Enough said!

I Will Remember

Gracious and Loving Lord, thank You for the gift of memory. Please remind us to praise You for all the answered prayers and for those that You have not answered…yet. Teach us to joyfully accept Your responses. AMEN.
