Our Good God
I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. Proverbs 8:17 (NIV)
Dentists! What can I say about these men and women who spend their days looking inside of mouths? For about eight years, I did not let a dentist even look at my teeth. When I finally built some trust, my pearly whites needed so much work that I choked and cried while in the chair. But I let trust lead me and he has done a great job. Not only is he an excellent dentist, he and his family have become great friends of mine. Pat Butler Dyson (Mornings with Jesus) has a funny story to tell so read on!

Although I visit my dentist faithfully, twice a year, each time I go, I discover I need some major procedure—a root canal, a crown, an implant. I am vigilant about caring for my teeth, but I still get decay. My dentist recommended a pricey water flosser/brush, and since I was desperate, I ordered it.
When it arrived, I removed it from the box, intimidated by the puzzling parts. My husband put it together for me and plugged it in on my bathroom counter. Not decorative in any way, it also consumed a good deal of space. I rarely read directions, but I studied these, and they thoroughly confused me. To prepare the unit, I had to fill the reservoir with water. There were three buttons on the power handle—one for brushing, one for flossing, and the third remained a mystery. Finally, after eyeballing my expensive new wonder gadget for a week, I decided to try it. I put the power handle in my mouth and pressed floss. My mouth filled with water, I chocked, and I let go of the power handle. It leaped out of my hand, spewing water on me, the mirror, and my cat.
How relieved I am that a relationship with Jesus is not mysterious. It doesn’t require assembly or complicated directions. I can always find Him. If I whisper His name, He’s there. I don’t have to figure out how He works. He always works! He doesn’t spew anything. He’s faithful, user friendly, always at hand. He may not prevent tooth decay, but He soothes my soul.
