Worry.jpg

Luke 12:25-28a Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you.

Oddly enough, the first thing that came to my mind when I sat down to write this was a recent episode (re-run) of the Big Bang Theory I watched. One of the characters, Sheldon, decided that if he let the role of the dice make all his decisions for him, it would free up his mind to help him focus on his research. Sometimes the “dice” gave him things he wanted. Other times, it gave him things he never would have chosen. But he did find that when he freed his mind of “mundane decisions,” his work productivity increased.

I am not suggesting you leave your life to chance. The good news is, we don’t have to. In fact, as one of my favorite songs states: “The work has already been done. That’s not good news, it’s the best news ever.” (Best News Ever, by Mercy Me).

Just as God is taking care of the birds of the sky and the lilies of the field, he is taking care of us. If we put our faith and trust in Him, there is no need to worry about where one decision or circumstance in life leads us. Even if it is some place totally unexpected or seemingly unwanted, God is there. As another line in the song says, if this were not so, then, “Explain to me what the cross was for?” And that IS the best news ever.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for championing our battles and bearing our burdens. Help us always to be mindful of Your Goodness and Grace and know that You have us in the palm of Your hand. Amen
