Mountain Top Revelation

Matthew 17:1-13 [Herein lies the story.]

Join Peter and the ‘sons of thunder’ as they climb a mountain following Jesus. Not knowing the cause or reason for the trip, whether for rest, instruction or prayer, it most certainly is important. They and you can expect something will happen that will help you to know the Master just a little bit more. Jesus stops and …

Moses and Elijah appear, alive in the present, and talk with Jesus. You are startled into immobility. Then night turns dazzling as Jesus begins to…shine. He becomes brighter and brighter until it is painful to look upon him. Your body reacts with nerves of fear, fear and wonder. A voice fills the air, “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!” You drop to the ground trembling in a near faint.

When next you open your eyes, it is dark. Jesus is alone and says, “Get up. Don’t be afraid.”

Seeing and hearing Jesus’ voice, you realize the darkness of the world got several shades lighter and less frightening. You remember Jesus’ words, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."

That comforting thought is quickly followed with, "You are the light of the world … let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

May this view of an astounding event and the biblical references strengthen your resolve to be a better disciple. When your world seems dark, turn on your light and shed some hope and joy to those you meet. Hallelujah.
