Lead Me To The Cross

“But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead”. Philippians 3:7-11

This verse reminds me that no matter where I am physically, I should be somewhere else mentally & spiritually. I will never forget years ago being at a woman’s conference & the speaker was talking about being in the hospital with her very sick child. She said, “Physically I am in the hospital, but I am actually at the foot of the cross.” This powerful phrase has stuck with me over the years & I think about it often. It has helped me overcome & has seen me through so many different situations.

When I am in an uncomfortable situation or I really don’t want to be in a certain place, I close my eyes & picture myself at the foot of the cross. I truly escape to Jesus’s presence & don’t think about what is actually going on around me. You really need to try this the next time you are waiting in a long line, waiting to hear good results or bad results from a health test, waiting for your child to mature, waiting for your spouse to understand, … It really works with all situations weather they are negative or positive. I think that is really focuses us on where we should be & not where we are physically.

One of my favorite songs is by Brooke Fraser with Hillsong United called Lead me to the Cross. You can listen & watch the video here

Father, thank You for Your Word & for music that can help us refocus on where You would like us to be. Thank You that we all belong to You & that You will always lead us back to the cross, to Your heart, back to where we belong. I pray that all of us can hear Your message in this verse & in this song & that we invite You to dwell in us. Amen.
