Leftovers

2 Timothy 2:15a Concentrate on doing your best for God. (The Message)

I know it is only the second day after Thanksgiving but I am so grateful for leftovers. What a fantastic array of gastronomic possibilities! I hope you are enjoying turkey sandwiches, turkey soup, turkey salad, turkey casserole and don’t get me started on the side dishes and desserts.

Leftovers remind me of how generous God is to us. Blessings overflow from His loving hands and I am filled with gratitude. In light of all that God has done for me and all that He has given, through His Son our Savior – I don’t want to give Him leftovers!

But…

When I put off reading scripture until I’m so tired that I can’t remember what I just read – I’m giving Him leftovers.

When I’m rushing through my prayers, not reflecting on each petition – I’m giving Him leftovers.

When I can’t sit in His presence without making a mental to-do list – I’m giving Him leftovers.

When I think about how much I should give financially to the work God is doing, instead of what I can and want to give – I’m giving Him leftovers.

But I don’t want to give Him leftovers!

Can you think of any other leftovers we give to God?

God give me the strength, courage and love for You to give You my best every day, in Jesus’ name, amen.
