Quick Fix?

As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When he entered the house, the blind men came up to Him and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes saying, “It shall be done to you according to your faith.”  Matthew 9:27-30.

This is a story about two blind men asking Jesus to heal them. Jesus responded with a pause, probably searching their hearts because He wanted to make sure the men had faith in Him. He then questioned them. Not everyone who says they want help really believe God can help them. He may have waited to see if they had faith in Him.

We are often disappointed and angry because Jesus is too slow in answering our prayers. Are we testing Jesus? Or are we just wanting a quick fix for our problems. We are so good at making excuses with our behaviors.

What happens when we want that band-aid fix? We tend to fall back into the same pattern over and over again. Truthfully, when we do not get to the real root of our problems, the problems tend to reappear over and over again. The two blind men had faith and Jesus recognized their faith. This is the kind of faith that heals.

Jesus knows our weaknesses as well as the desires of our hearts. When we finally realize and believe He will make that necessary change in us. But don’t be surprised if He pauses and asks, “Do you believe that I am able to do this? Do you have faith that I am who I say I am?” John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life....” We need to know the truth of our own situation and once we do, His all-consuming love for us will produce change.

Whatever May Come

Father, the world today is full of “quick fixes” and they often leave us disappointed and empty. Help us to see the differences and keep our eyes and our faith on Your Son, Jesus.  AMEN
