The Gift of a Gift
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Oh, the thrill of watching a child’s face light up as they open a gift! They smile for the world and their little heart overflows with excitement. It does not have to be a fancy wrap but just simply having their name on the present is quite enough.
Have you ever met a child that does not want to open a box during the holidays? If so, you then feel their forehead for fever and ask if they are sick. However, I have known some adults who sat and looked at it and said, “I’ll open it later.” Ever wonder what they received or wonder if they even opened it?
Opening a special present is an intimate time of sharing. During this Advent season, we are going to tear into several gifts with which God has blessed us. Our heavenly Father loves us so much that He gave us the most precious Gift in the history of mankind—Jesus Christ, His only Son.
It was not an expensively wrapped package that He delivered to the world. Or was it? That gift was a baby, a human little one with the needs of all babies. He cried, spit up, messed, slept and…well, you get the picture. Yet, inside the heart of this little infant was a profound love that that would not and could not be stopped. The love and full nature of God was nestled in His heart.
When you stop to truly think about this gift, hopefully you will have the desire to once again share it with others. There are many who are hesitant to open their gift because they are not sure about this kind of love. It’s a different kind of love, that’s for sure. Show them what they are missing. Watch as faces light up with pure joy!
Father, what can we say but thank You for the gift of life through Jesus Christ, Your only begotten Son. Give us a willing heart to share Him with others. AMEN.
