Volunteer a Miracle

Psalm 106:2 Who can list the glorious miracles of the Lord? Who can ever praise him enough?

A retired carpenter volunteered to build some crates for his church for shipping clothes to China. He worked all day, enjoying it, but when he got home, he realized that his brand-new eyeglasses were missing. They had fallen out of his shirt pocket into one of the crates—now on their way to China!

It was the time of the Great Depression and he had spent $20 for those glasses. He was upset. “It’s not fair!” he complained to God. “I give up my time and talent and money to your work and now this.”

Months later, the director of the Chinese orphanage came to thank the church. He spoke of their gratitude and the excitement of the children upon receiving the clothes. Then he added, “I must also thank you for the glasses you sent. You see, the Communists had just swept through the orphanage, destroying everything, including my glasses. I was desperate. There was no way of replacing them. Along with not seeing well, I experienced terrible headaches every day. So my coworkers and I were much in prayer about this. Then your crates arrived, and there on top of the clothes in the first crate we opened was this pair of glasses. Amazingly they fit me perfectly! Thank you, thank you for your part in this great miracle!”

The church people, happy for the miracle, were silently thinking, “He must have us mixed up with another church. We didn’t send any glasses.” But sitting quietly in the back of the room, in tears, an ordinary carpenter realized the Master Carpenter had used him in an extraordinary way.

  Story excerpt from James Moore

That’s how it works. When we find our ministry, our place of service, when we hear God’s call or nudge, and we respond doing our best, then God will take it from there and do miraculous things. We may never know it has happened, but you can be assured it has. You do your part in gratitude and love; God will do his.

Things are beginning to happen again in our church, opportunities are becoming open, God is calling and miracles are waiting to be put in motion. Are you available? You are uniquely able to help spread God’s kingdom here and now. So find your place of service because our service is a symbol of our gratitude, our love, our commitment.

Be a servant and be served too.

Are you unsure of how wide is your field of service, or where does it say that I should serve others? Listen to this brief explanation—it’s less than 5 minutes.
