Overflowing Blessings by Anonymous
“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in my house, and thus put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts; see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing.” (Malachi 3:10)
“When I'm worried and I can't sleep, I count my blessings instead of sheep.” I think Irving Berlin was on to something when he wrote those words. As individuals and as a community of believers, it is too easy to get caught up in asking God to bless us in some way, and in the process to lose sight of the ways we have already been blessed! God lavishly blesses each of us already, the key is to learn to recognize those blessings as the gifts they are!
In return for those “overflowing blessings,” He asks us to use those gifts for His glory – to bring those blessings to Him. God urges us to give generously – of our time, of our talents, of our financial resources, of our love, of our friendship, indeed, of our whole selves; to give abundantly back to God using the blessings He has shared with us. And in return? In return He “opens up the windows of heaven” and rains down even more blessings on us! So, take a moment today to count your own blessings and use them to glorify the One who blesses. Then – get out your umbrella and watch the blessings pour down!
