Be Thou My Vision

I do not usually start a devotion with music but I feel this is extremely important; in fact, it’s so important that I postponed the other writing I was going to do for today. (You will get that one later!)

Please listen to this with your heart.

During this presentation of chronological worship music, I found myself pulled into the words, thinking about history and I finished viewing worship from a different perspective. Let me share.

Why do we come to church? For many, the answers are simple – fellowship, music, message and a sense of belonging. Your reasons may be in another order, but probably we all might use the same words.

The message of God’s love has been around much longer than the music and yet, we cling to the old melodies and words and can bring them to memory much faster than we can ever recall the exact location of a Bible verse. Why is that? The scripture put to music has become some of our favorite hymns of the ages. It is soothing, contemplative and inspiring to me.

This short video begins with Be Thou My Vision and ends with the same. Throughout all history, since the beginning of time, we have always needed a Savior. We always will!

I am further convinced that worship is not just about music but rather about vision.
