Ours for Eternity

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8)

We live in a world of constant changes—more than our minds can possibly absorb without going into traumatic shock. One cannot turn on the news, open a newspaper, get on Facebook without seeing all the changes happening around us. But the anchor holds!

Our hearts ache for those in Haiti that have again lost so much. We cry tears for families and for the men hanging on the sides of the plane in Kabul. The emotions that roll over us regarding COVID-19 and the variants cause such pain. The wildfires out west have destroyed entire towns. The changes are not good right now and we are left wondering what is going to happen with the 20th anniversary of 9/11. (Notice: I said wondering and not worrying.)

Even our bodies are changing relentlessly in spite of modern science’s attempt to keep us healthy and prolong life indefinitely. We simply keep moving forward knowing we are held by His love.

Scripture tells us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). What a relief to know that He is not going to change His words, location or anything else. He is ours for eternity.

We can circle around and experience all kinds of alterations or ups and downs but not Him. He remains the same, completely loving, deeply compassionate and overly patient with us.

“In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end” (Psalm 102:25-27).

How comforting to read these words in our ever-changing world.

“For this God is our God for ever and ever, he will be our guide even to the end” (Psalm 48:14). We must believe these words to find peace in our soul today.

Rest in Him knowing that the anchor holds because He is ours for eternity.
