True Worship by Anonymous

John 4:23 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.

The Bible contains advice on stewardship, community, love for neighbor and faith, but not much on worship.  Jesus only mentions worship three times, twice reminding us to focus on God and once saying it should have “spirit and truth”.  This gives us a lot of freedom in style, format, leadership and content, as long as spirit and truth are present.

The Greek word translated as spirit also means breath, life, soul and it’s the same word as the Holy Spirit.  It’s a pretty comprehensive word that means we’re giving God everything.  When is the last time you really gave God your life, soul and spirit in worship?  When we really get in the spirit zone, the worries and weights of life can be set aside as we truly worship God!

And truth is a reminder of the solid foundation of God, Who is Truth and it’s the personal integrity we bring.  We can approach God just as we are and where we are.

The Bible may not give us much on worship as we would like, but what we have certainly gets to the heart of it; spirit and truth.  I don’t know about you, but when I seek those two qualities, then I’m truly worshipping!

Lord, help us to truly worship You through the power of Your Holy Spirit. May our worship please You and bring You glory. Amen.
