Dance

You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like its heaven on earth.

William W. Purkey

I used to love to dance and I still do but not what they call dance today. I would certainly need a chiropractor or an ambulance should I choose to participate. In my lifetime, I have had two dance partners that brought out the best in me. One of them was a young man, Paul, and he had the best ballroom dancing moves ever! I could follow him so gracefully that people actually cleared the floor for us. We were college sweethearts until he transferred to another school. After that, I attended many social functions but it just was never the same.

Think hard! Have you ever had that one particular partner that could whirl and twirl you until you were out of breath and almost dizzy? You did not even have to practice because it just came naturally. What excitement filled your very core. Most likely, you either married that person or moved on and settled for less dancing.

That brings me to my second dance partner. He was actually better than Paul. He is the one who moves with such grace and has the most creativity. Dancing with him is never tiring or boring. The music is almost ethereal; it is so pure and lovely beyond words. His moves are great but sometimes I stumble all over his feet and mine. He never makes fun of me but he does giggle sometimes. With his outstretched hand, he motions for me to try again.

Dancing with him takes practice on my part because sometimes I want to lead and go in the opposite direction. He usually stops dancing and will wait for me to get back in step with his music. There are times when I am defiant and want the spotlight. It is so hard to be a forever follower and never the leader.

He pulls me close and says, “Just do what I am doing.” And round and round we go, spinning and turning to the beautiful music from his playlist. Personally, I would rather dance with Him more than anyone else. With His hand placed gently on my back, we are in sync.

Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil. Psalm 119:133

Lord of The Dance

Father of all creation, thank You for allowing us to dance with You. Help us never to turn from Your extended hand. Teach us to move through life with Your guidance. AMEN.
