Hidden Treasure
We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. 2 Corinthians 4:7
When my godson Andrew was young he loved to play a game with me called, “Find the Treasure.” I would hide something very valuable, like a toy car or a cookie, draw a map for him to follow, and he delighted in finding the hidden treasure.
These wonderful, inspired words written by the Apostle Paul remind us that we have the treasure of highest value in our hearts. We have the light of the Jesus Christ shining within us. Though faith in Christ we are entrusted with the message of salvation and redemption. We are empowered and equipped to share His love, compassion and mercy with people who are hurting. We are given strength to encourage those who are feeling depressed and alone, in small but meaningful ways – phone calls, emails and letters can convey our love and the love of Jesus.
So often, we can feel that we don’t have to right words to say, or don’t know the Bible well enough to help someone who is struggling. But, with God as the source of our power, we have confidence that He will use us to reveal Jesus to others. We can refer to the treasure map He has given us – the Bible to understand the Treasure within us.
Dear God, help us to never hide the Treasure within our hearts. May Jesus be visible in us for everyone to see, amen.
