Be Glad All Your Days

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14

If there is anyone out there in our readership that knows how to do this successfully every day, please get in touch with me. I can manage some days and even parts of many days but the word ALL is the key word here. I just don’t know how to do this all the time.

Perhaps a short list of little things that thwart my efforts of being glad include: my little dog coughing all night, Buddy, the GSP, taking my breakfast off the counter, walking out in the bitter cold and rain to start my car, waiting for my IRS refund longer than I think it should take, my knee still giving me fits and seeing two coyotes on our property.  Now these seem senseless to you but they can easily take away my ‘glad’ in a hurry.

Big ‘glad’ stealers might include an unwanted illness, expensive repairs, death of a friend or family member, children or grandchildren gone astray, owing taxes, unkind words spoken between loved ones or friends etc. This list is endless!

How does God keep a lid on all these actions, thoughts and feelings that we have and not go stark raving mad? It will forever be a mystery to me! Instead, His unfailing love calms us from the verge of imploding, shows us a better way (through His Word) and puts a new song in our hearts. In the meantime, however, we have not been wearing our ‘glad’ face. Is it even possible to be glad when our individual worlds seem to be cracking and crumbling?

Hind sight is one of my companions and probably yours too. The next time that I misplace my glad, I will consider all those who are less fortunate, hungry, and sick. At least I have food to eat, a reliable car to drive, minor old-age aches and pains, a tax refund coming, the ability to enjoy nature and so much more. I must realize and be happy that I am blessed and there is a lot to be glad about.

Maybe someday I will be able to immediately flip that coin to the glad side; a side that is certainly shinier and more attractive for others to see.

Happy Song by Chris Tomlin

Father God, thank You for Your unfailing love that carries me through each day. Teach me to find reasons to be glad in every situation. AMEN.
