Stayed on Him
Perfect peace? Let’s be real, can anyone actually describe that from first-hand experience? David Guzik does a very nice job explaining this concept.
Some can have this perfect peace, but it is fleeting and they are never kept there. Others can be kept in peace, but it is not a perfect peace; … the peace of spiritual sleep and ultimate destruction. But there is a perfect peace that the Lord will keep us in.
To be kept in this perfect peace, our mind must be stayed. So, what sustains your mind? What upholds your mind? What does your mind stand fast upon? What does your mind lean upon? To have this perfect peace, your mind cannot occasionally come to the Lord; it has to be stayed on Him.
I don’t think I am there yet! As much as I would like to live in perfect peace, there is this thing called a broken world that carries my current address. Too easily I am swayed to wander from precious thoughts of Him. Now mind you, I do come back, but while on my little hiatus, I am in the world and am in a sort of spiritual slumber.
I long to live in perfect peace but I don’t know if I can pull this off because it means I have to constantly think about Him. Some days my mind seems to travel to strange places.
To be kept in this perfect peace, our mind must be stayed on the Lord. If our mind is stayed on ourselves, or our problems, or the problem people in our lives, or on anything else, we can’t have this perfect peace. … Satan loves to get our minds on anything except God and His love for us!
… Almost always, you keep your mind stayed on whatever you are trusting. When we trust the Lord, we keep our mind stayed on Him. It all means that the battle for trust in our lives begins in our minds. If we trust the Lord, it will show in our actions, but it will begin in our mind.
This is a loving promise that He gave us and we need to try to get there. Maybe if we envision this as a destination, we might do better. Let’s take tiny steps and before long, we will stay longer and longer…and experience some perfect peace.
Heavenly Father, You are good and great! Help us to understand this peace that You offer and not shy away from the requirements. AMEN.
