What I Saw

If you love me, keep my commands. John 14:15

This evening was different; something just did not feel right as Jesus and His disciples ate together. He was using words that did not make a lot of sense. He talked about His Blood and Body but no one really understood what He was saying. He also gave them a command, “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34, NIV).

Judas made a big scene and left in a huff but Jesus was not bothered too much! No one would truly miss Judas because he was kind of a stingy and greedy man. He wasn’t like the others.

Jesus spoke about leaving to go somewhere but His followers would not be able to go with Him. I was only the owner of the house where they met to have supper. But there was definitely unease in the room however, I could not identify the source.

Jesus even told Peter that sometime very soon, he would speak to strangers saying he never knew Jesus. That was not possible because they were close friends and friends don’t do that to each other. It was truly an unusual evening to say the least.

After they left in silence and I was cleaning up, I wondered what Jesus knew but wasn’t telling them. The night became even more strange! I wasn’t there but I was told that the soldiers came and arrested Jesus after Judas gave Him a kiss. Hard to believe that one of His beloved men gave Him up for some silver.

They took Him away after a little skirmish with a soldier but Jesus put an end to it! It’s like He knew along what was going to happen. But how?

Then, I also heard that Peter did just as Jesus said He would. It was unbelievable! How could His dear friend deny Him? I guess he was afraid of what would happen to him.

I hope I am never put in that position, but if I am, I hope that I will say and do the right thing.
