Where Does the Time Go?

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Ephesians 5:15-17

It seems like just yesterday that I…

·         Went to 1st grade

·         Got a frizzy perm that was a total embarrassment

·         Played a saxophone solo at the sr. high band concert at 12 years of age

·         Went to proms in beautiful dresses my mother made for me

·         Graduated from high school

·         Went to college

·         Got married

·         Had a precious baby girl

·         Got divorced

·         Floundered in my faith

·         Found my way back to my loving and forgiving Father

·         Watched my daughter and son-in-law walk down the aisle

·         Held my grandchildren

·         Moved back to PA from FL after 15 years

·         Started writing devotions

·         Retired from teaching

·         Reconnected with a 1st grade classmate

·         ….?

Between all these major events are some wild and wooly stories!

But really, where does the time go? Is it something that just ticks by or is monitored by a clock, calendar and birthdays? When the minutes pass, where do they go? Is it just “POOF” and they’re gone?

Perhaps it all depends on what one does with the time. Me? Well, I wasted a great deal of time in my earlier years. Today I can honestly say the best times were when I fell so far down that I had to look up to spit. Yes, devastating at the time and my ego was black and blue. But those were the months and years when I began learning about trust, love, forgiveness and faith. I certainly would not be where I am today without them.

We all have had great and not so great moments in our lives. What did you do in your down times? Most of us probably had some raucous pity parties and invited all our friends only to find out they really did not want to come and watch us wallow. Maybe you had a friend who showed you tough love, helped you climb out of the pit and taught you to pray. (They should probably be on your yearly Christmas card list!)

Yes, what we do with time truly matters! Today when I write, it comes from collaboration with the Holy Spirit. As I go through every day, I am looking and listening for new ideas to share with you. I still waste a few minutes playing games on my cell phone but…

Times

Gracious Father, thank You for Your enduring love. Help us to use it wisely and teach us not to waste time. AMEN.
