Shifting Gears
Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:8
ME: Jesus, do You ever get tired of hearing me ask You for the same things over and over? When I don’t get any answers, I think You didn’t hear me. Do You hear me every time I pray?
JESUS: Yes, I do hear your prayers. Your impatience is quite evident. What you can’t see are all the events happening that will answer your prayer. It takes time, My child.
ME: Even when I do not get the answers I want, it would be nice to have a sign from You that You have heard me and are working on some kind of response.
JESUS: I believe it is called trust.
ME: I do trust You.
JESUS: But obviously not enough to pray and let go of it. It is difficult to respond to your prayers when you have such a tight grip on the answers that YOU want.
ME: Jesus, I confess that I must give up control and let go. I know that You are on top of my concerns. Maybe I need to be more responsive to You.
JESUS: Child, I have planted in your soul a gift of receptivity to My Presence. You must guard and nurture this.
ME: Jesus, I get so excited and well, …honored that You encourage me to talk with You as I pour out my heart and deepest concerns as well as my requests.
JESUS: I know, but you tend to pray and then forget to thank Me for the answers that are on the way.
ME: You are right! When I keep badgering You with my requests, I feel a lot of tension. What should I do?
JESUS: Pray for what is on your mind and then thank Me for hearing and answering your petitions. Your mind-set will become much more peaceful.
ME: So I need to shift gears and focus on Your great and precious promises?
JESUS: Yes! You have said it very well.
ME: But wait…what if I don’t like the answers You have for me?
JESUS: Precious child, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
