Chasing Rabbits

I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Ecclesiastes 1:14

I have a tendency to occasionally chase rabbits! I get so caught up in my own thoughts that I run off the path and chase these rabbit dreams—no matter where they might lead. And then I have the audacity to complain that I can’t seem to get anything accomplished. Recently, it took me two weeks to get back to writing devotions and I’ll be the first to admit that it was because I was mostly following rabbit trails.

Do we focus on the quick, little bunny or is it the trail? How would you describe this trail? For me, it is usually some curious little path that is lined with all kinds of wonderful distractions. I never know what I’ll find on these adventures so my inquisitiveness leads me forward. Skipping along, I am intrigued by all that surrounds me only to realize that I have lost sight of the bunny that lured me in.

As I try to retrace my steps, nothing looks familiar. Is this the way out? Where in the world am I? Where is the exit sign? “Okay, God, I need some help here!”

God graciously provides a compass and I return to His path. I must have thought the other activities were more important, more fun and even easier. I was so wrong! I don’t like being alone somewhere that is unfamiliar—none of us do.

What are the “rabbits” in your life that distract you from doing the job God has called you to do? Maybe it is social media, shopping, or relationships or other things. The bottom line comes down to this: What is your priority?

Focus

Amazing God, thank You for finding me on my rabbit trails and for giving me direction. You are the Light that shines in my darkness. Help me to stay on Your path. AMEN.
