Wait...

Psalm 27:14- Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

“Wait” - a word that we often hear that describes a state we might be in due to a delayed action until a particular time or until something else happens.  This is a situation we may find ourselves in related to many circumstances or occurrences in life. We wait for news, we wait for a package, or how about being in long lines or those times stalled in traffic jams.  We often wait with anticipation for a future event such as: marriage, childbirth, buying a home, or retirement.

How does it make you feel to wait? In many situations we probably don’t like waiting but waiting is what we do. It is a part of life. The question to be answered is how will we behave in waiting? In patience, trusting God or in agitation, frustration, and anger?

Life is a winding road, and the path is certain to be filled with trials.  I bet none of us wakes up in the morning and says, “boy this would be a great day for trials to be in my path.”

The Bible speaks of our need to wait on the Lord. What does it mean to wait on God? Well, we are to rest assured in hope with confidence in the Word of God which tells us that no matter the circumstances or difficulties in this life, God is our guaranteed assurance of protection, guidance, and provision.

In this text from the Psalm, we are called to wait on God – but while we wait we are to be of good courage, in other words with confidence and expectations. The courage is not only to endure but also to consider that the outcome of some trials will not be as we expect or want. Also, God does not always tell us why He wants us to wait but when the “wait” is over, He will show us why. It maybe weeks, months or years later, but He will show us. And, waiting is a good reminder that God is in control, and we are not.

When we wait on God, we are saying "Lord, we trust You and we know You know what You are doing, and we believe by faith that You are indeed working all things together for our good.”

Heavenly Father, help me to learn to wait on You and to be of good courage, knowing that You are in perfect control of my life - and that all I am called to do is to quietly wait for You to act on my behalf. Help me confidently wait on You with prayer and a heart of thanksgiving, in Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.
