Squirrel vs Truck

Even if I walk into trouble, You will keep my life safe…Psalm 138:7 (NLV)

Yes, you obviously woke up this morning but you have not a clue what this day holds. You may have some goals and expectations but beyond that, you are in the dark. Marianne Campbell shares a great message from All God’s Creatures that is surely thought provoking.

Driving down a busy thoroughfare in my hometown, I watched with trepidation as one of our common grey squirrels poked its head out from between two parked cars along the avenue. I could tell it was sizing up its chances of making it to the others side across five lanes of asphalt. The failures of its brethren, which I witnessed every week on this particular stretch of road, wasn’t inspiring me with any confidence, but the squirrel seemed determined, so I slowed down.

Zip! The squirrel covered the first three lanes in the blink of an eye, but oncoming traffic was not slowing down. I wanted to look away, sure of the outcome, but breathlessly watched as the squirrel plowed headfirst into the tire of a passing truck! It bounced backward, somersaulting head over tail, found its legs, reversed direction, ran back in front of me, and bolted to safety. I’m sure the bewildered squirrel was unaware of its astonishing deliverance from a mortifying death, but it caused me to ponder how faithfully God protects me, and like the squirrel, I may not even know about it.

My Father in heaven watches over me, keeping me safe when, perhaps, I’m determined to go ahead with plans I should stop and more prayerfully consider. While there’s no guarantee bad things, even sudden death won’t happen to me, I know God is with me in every circumstance and my salvation is secure. With that confidence, I can face the world.

If the Lord be with us, we have no cause of fear. His eye is upon us, His arm over us, His ear open to our prayer—His grace sufficient, His promise unchangeable. —John Newton

No matter what may happen today, we must remember that we serve an awesome and mighty God!

Mighty God (Another Hallelujah)

Glorious God, You are worthy of all our praise! You take such good care of us and we are not even aware of it. Thank You for Your watchful eyes. Help us to be more tuned in to the plans You have for us. AMEN.
