A Blind Trust

As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. John 9:1-3

We always had cows back on the farm and one of my chores was to go get them when they were in the upper pasture and bring them down to milk, feed and bed down. I never minded that job and I watched them with great fascination. There was always a bell cow (one that the others would follow) without hesitation. She took them into the barn day after day and never led them astray. Devon O’Day shares a unique twist from All God’s Creatures; an eye-opening life lesson for us.

My blind steer moves around the farm, missing very little. He plays in the water as I fill the trough. He finds the coolest, shadiest spots to lie down in the heat of the day. He runs to me as he hears me pour food in his bucket. You see, he as born blind, so his life is not based on what he finds; he depends on me to supply his needs.

H listens for the cold well water to pour from the spout, and he rushes to it to let it run over his head as he laps it with that long black tongue before it can hit the water trough. He follows the sound of my squeaky Crocs as I walk around the pasture, collecting buckets and putting out hay. He knows that by following the sound of his supplier, his needs will be met, and in that he finds contentment and safety.

I’m inspired by the example he set for me. I want to trust my Supplier, who provides all I need and answers the desires of my heart, with as much certainty as my blind steer trusts me. I want to follow His voice without wavering or hesitating and believe His Word with Passion.

I need to really work on blind trust. How about you?

Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus

Father God, please help me to always be aware of all You provide. And please build my trust every day in the good plans You have for me. AMEN.
