Student and Teacher
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
ME: Jesus, I loved being a teacher. Sometimes I miss it.
JESUS: I know. I put that passion in your heart. I wanted You to share your creativity with children and teach them about Me.
ME: You know, it was a lot of hard work to walk into the classroom every day and teach.
JESUS: Perhaps. But not once did you fall flat on your face. There were many times when you were tired or preoccupied but I always gave you the strength to keep going. You, My precious child, were not a quitter. And aren’t you still in touch with students from fifteen years ago?
ME: When I think about it, I learned a lot from the kids too! They taught me to enjoy life, laugh more, explore new perspectives; they taught me to see the world through their eyes.
JESUS: I hope you realize that you will always be a student.
ME: That’s good because I really enjoy learning something new every single day.
JESUS: Do you teach others what you have learned?
ME: …ummm…not really.
JESUS: Why?
ME: I guess it’s because I don’t think anyone would really care.
JESUS: What did you learn yesterday?
ME: Well, I learned that chickens will always return to the coup at night. But who wants to hear that?
JESUS: How about the people who own the chickens? Didn’t you also tell them about the foxes, coyotes and hawks that are living in the woods?
ME: Yes, I guess You are right! They needed to hear that.
JESUS: Now that is just a minor example of student and teacher. It seems that the devotions you read every day push you to dig deeper into My Word. And then with the help of the Holy Spirit, you begin writing a creative message for others to read.
ME: Yes, I do that, don’t I?
JESUS: You are a student and a teacher at the same time.
ME: I truly want to be a good student and learn more.
JESUS: But you will never learn everything! “Learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor, defend the fatherless, plead for the widow (Isaiah 1:17).”
ME: That’s what I need to learn, right?
JESUS: Yes, the beauty of God’s school is that each student becomes a teacher!
