When Thoughts Become a Dialogue

Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Luke 12:22-26

ME: Jesus, I don’t like feeling anxious! Why do I even get those concerns?

JESUS: Rightfully, you should not enjoy any kind of apprehensions. Your anxiety is a result of envisioning the future without Me.

ME: What! I could never live my life without You.

JESUS: But when you have those nervous thoughts, I am not in there am I? It is all about you and the situation.

ME: I guess not. Jesus, forgive me! I never meant to leave You out of my life. The feelings of worry always seem to be about things that might happen.

JESUS: Yes, I know. So the best defense against worry is staying in communication with Me.

ME: I’ll try to listen better and not do so much talking!

JESUS: If you must consider upcoming events, follow these rules: 1) Do not linger in the future, because anxieties sprout up like mushrooms when you wander there. 2) Remember the promise of My continual Presence. Try to include Me in any imagery that comes to mind.

ME: Sometimes those feelings happen so fast. How do I block them or control them?

JESUS: This mental discipline does not come easily because you are accustomed to being god of your fantasies.

ME: Are You serious? I’m don’t want to be a god of anything.

JESUS: But you still try. All your worry comes to nothing; it will not extend your life, make you look wiser or change anything. You are not in charge here, I am!

ME: I don’t mean to do that. I wasn’t even aware I was doing it.

JESUS: I know. You still have much to learn. Just know that My Presence with you, now and forevermore, outshines any fantasy you could ever imagine. Trust Me!
