Which Way?

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. Psalm 143:8

This sign has intrigued me for several weeks, now with fall foliage, it is even more unique. So, tell me, which way do I go? I am going to assume that it means there is traffic in both directions.

Confusion is no stranger to any of us. What seems so right can be proven wrong in no time flat. Then we must back track, ask forgiveness for our impulsiveness, and simply wait.

In our world today, we often hear the words: “All roads will lead us home,” or “All religions point to the same God.” This is not true! I was once taught that the moment you hear the word all, it is an untruth. I want to know without question, that I am on the right road.

How do we know which way to go? For some, it is easy to slowly stop, look, listen, and pray. For others like me, I slam the brakes on, stare at the sign for a minute and then flip a coin. Honestly, my way might be pretty for a while but then the road becomes impassible and I must turn around and go back. I tend to want that microwave faith—immediate responses—and I know I am not alone.

For those of us who are spontaneous, having quiet time in His presence at the beginning of each day is extremely important. I know that we often get derailed during these private and intimate moments. We are fine one minute; our minds are still, our crossed legs are not swinging, and we seem weightless as if we’re lost in His radiance. Within seconds, we are mentally reviewing the to-do list, adding things and crossing out the lesser-important.

Even in our quiet moments with Jesus, we are left with a dilemma, we cannot go both ways at once. Perhaps this sign is more like a warning. It tells us that we can easily be run over by the negativity of the world if we are not careful. It is a caution, a protection and a reminder of His loving guidance.

We must look both ways multiple times then wait for Him to tell us which turn signal to use.

I Choose to Worship You

Heavenly Father, thank You for patiently loving us when we are in a hurry. Our world promotes hurry, but You are our Leader. Help us to wait on You for everything. AMEN.
