A Promise of Salvation

… if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” Romans 10:9-11 (NKJV)

What exactly is a promise?

My dictionary says it is a noun and it is a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen. Something will happen.

Biblical Term of Salvation

The saving of human beings from sin and its consequences—which include death and separation from God. Salvation is accomplished by Christ's death and resurrection, and His justification of all who believe in Him as Lord and Savior.

I have also heard of the Sinners Prayer, and it sounds very much like Romans 10:9.

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior.”

The sinner’s prayer is not found in the bible, but it is an evangelical Christian phrase referring to any prayer of repentance, prayed by individuals who feel sin in their lives and have the desire to form or renew a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Remember it is not by our works that we are saved, it is not by how good we are or who we know. It is by our belief and through our heart that will give us this promise of beautiful salvation.

We often get sidetracked with our busy life and lifestyle we live in today, but every Sunday our pastor invites us to come and renew our faith through this prayer. It is a wonderful, precious way to recommit to this special promise by simply praying these words silently from the inner-most part of my heart. Jesus loves hearing this from us, and I am sure that it warms His heart too.

Father, we often need reminders that it is not by our works or deeds, but only through the belief in Your Son that we can receive the promise of salvation.  Because of our sin nature, we often stray from Your teachings and we are grateful that You allow us to come multiple times to renew this Promise.
