Say “YES” to Peace
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3 (ESV)
Awakening to a couple inches of snow was a very pleasant surprise. True beauty covered our little corner of the world. Peace crept in and I felt warm. I took lots of pictures including this one. My thoughts instantly turned to Christmas, and I wondered if the snow would last until then. Probably not, but I’m told that there will be plenty of the white stuff up here.
After choosing this picture for the devotion, I really started looking closely. My goal was to show the blue sky against the snow-covered branches. Then I realized that the branches all hung low from the weight of the snow. In fact, they were very chaotic, and it was impossible to see through them.
The peace of the moment was rich with beauty.
With boots and winter coat on, I went out to feed the deer. At first, they kept their distance. Perhaps they didn’t recognize me with my hood up. I spoke to them, “Time to eat!” and they came running after hearing my voice. They hungrily nibbled what I’d given and there was a sense of peace.
The peace of the moment was quiet and lovely.
Watching Michael put up the birdfeeders was worth the wait. Within seconds, the chickadees, nuthatches, blue jays, woodpeckers, cardinals, and wrens were atop the suet and seeds. With little cold feet, they hung on to the snow-covered branches and pecked away.
The peace of the moment was full of joyful chatter.
Wanting peace is a world-wide prayer. However, wanting it and letting it start within our own heart is difficult. The song, “Let There Be Peace on Earth” captures the true essence of this word. Saying “YES” to peace does not start as a global effort. It starts in each and every heart and goes viral.
The peace of that moment will burst open with praise and gratitude.
Prince of Peace, thank You for Your peace that surpasses all our human understanding. We confess that we don’t have a good handle on this. Lord, teach us to first seek You within our hearts. And then, please fill us to overflowing. AMEN.
