Surely
Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it. Genesis 23:16
ME: Jesus, I’m feeling overwhelmed with Christmas approaching rapidly. When we say time flies, it really does…especially now.
JESUS: I never meant it to be this way.
ME: Oh Jesus, I am not blaming You. It has just…happened—like a snowball rolling down a hill.
JESUS: I am aware of history. Let’s chat for a few minutes because I want to remind you of something that might help you during your anxious days.
ME: Okay, I’m ready.
JESUS: Jacob was a good man but ran away from his enraged brother. One night he went to sleep in a strange and desolate land using a stone as a pillow. After dreaming about heaven and angels and promises of My Presence, he awoke and exclaimed: “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” Those words were not just for Jacob but for everyone who seeks Me.
ME: I’ve heard that Bible story many times but never thought of it as being for me. I like that. It’s comforting to hear this.
JESUS: Precious child, whenever you feel far away from Me, just say these words: “Surely the Lord is in this place!” Then ask Me to give you awareness of My Presence. This is a prayer that I delight in answering.
ME: It sounds way too easy. When I am out shopping and people won’t even move their cart so I can get through, I am not sure that You are there in that store, at that time.
JESUS: (chuckling) Well, I am! You know, you could always back up and be the one to go around.
ME: Usually I am, but that’s just rude for them to glare and not budge.
JESUS: Listen to Me! Let My Presence override everything you experience. I hover over you and everything around you. I am training you to stay conscious of Me in every situation you encounter.
ME: (Sigh) Why is it more difficult to focus on You this time of year?
JESUS: It is because you are being pulled by unrealistic expectations. This is not what My birth is all about. Do not lose sight of Me!
ME: So, all I need to do to battle these feelings is say, “Surely the Lord is in this place.” Wait…the place is me.
JESUS: Yes, now go and enjoy your day.
