Invisible Thoughts

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.  Psalm 139:23-24

ME: I am so grateful I did not tell that lady what I was really thinking! She was so rude and disrespectful. Jesus, it’s hard not to say the words that I would like to off-load on people. They really do some dumb stuff.

JESUS: Yes, my child, they do some strange things. I don’t focus too much on what they do as much as how you react to them.

ME: I do not tell them off, cuss them out or call them dumb or stupid.

JESUS: For that control, I am grateful. However, did you know that I hold you accountable for your thoughts? They are not invisible to Me.

ME: No way! When did that start?

JESUS: Honestly, it started with the creation of mankind. Most of the time, you all forget that I know your ideas before you do.

ME: Oh, Jesus! Now that is scary!

JESUS: It does not have to make you anxious. When your thoughts head off the rails, call out to Me.

ME: But Jesus, I have to confess that some of my thoughts make me feel better. When someone cuts me off and I yell, “You’re a jerk!”, to me, it is harmless, and I am telling them how I feel.

JESUS: To Me, it is hurtful. What you say in your mind should always be safe to say to someone.

ME: I could never call someone a jerk to their face. It’s not nice and it doesn’t feel right unless I am fooling around with them.

JESUS: That is exactly what I am trying to tell you. Don’t be mean and use any kind of name calling—even if it is in your head.

ME: Are You telling me that when someone is offensive, I am supposed to smile and keep my thoughts clean and my mouth closed. …But how does that happen? You know me!

JESUS: Yes, I created you with a sweet smile yet I know the creative revenge you are capable of planning. Be careful.

ME: You are really asking a lot of me.

JESUS: Yes, and I want love to guide every word you utter. Just ask the Holy Spirit to rein in what you call your invisible thinking because I can see it!
