Sweet Discovery
I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4 (ESV)
ME: Jesus, am I a worry wart?
JESUS: What do you think?
ME: I am not sure if I am just concerned about things going on in the world or if I am truly worried. Could I be both?
JESUS: Yes, that is a possibility. First you must understand the difference between the two. Worry is never productive. It is always a waste of time, counterproductive, and anticipates chaos. It shows a lack of trust in Me; it means that you are not quite sure I am in control.
ME: I agree with You; it blocks me from getting things done and keeps my focus from You. Then, I guess I don’t worry as much as I thought. I know who You are and what You can do.
JESUS: Then let’s look at concern. It is more of a calculated consideration and assessment of actual danger.
ME: That’s a great definition. I can live with that. When I think about the condition of the world, I am concerned. Daily I pray for wisdom for our leaders, families of those who have lost loved ones in natural disasters, to violence or accidents and those who need a healing touch. I pray for Your comforting arms to embrace each one of them.
JESUS: Yes, and I hear those prayers.
ME: Usually, when I give my concerns to You, I don’t take them back. I guess when I retract my concerns, then it becomes worry. Is that right? Am I getting this?
JESUS: Yes, you are correct.
ME: I’m not being pushy or rude but why does it take You so long to take care of some of the world and national problems?
JESUS: Dear child of Mine, I know you can’t see beyond the obvious but there is much being prepared in the heavenly realms. You would be much better off not to concern yourself with what I’m doing. And worry? Well, that only gives you anxiety and heart burn. Neither are pleasant.
ME: But how can I let go of these things?
JESUS: Focus on the promises that I have made throughout history. I am not about the business of breaking any.
ME: Yes, I know that. From those promises I can build more trust.
JESUS: Before your concerns turn into worry, talk to Me. Cut the strings that you attach to your prayers and don’t pull them back.
ME: It is so easy to talk to You. I’m so sorry that my thoughts get chaotic.
JESUS: Don’t worry about it!
