A Prayer for Father's Day
“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fail, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.” Psalm 37:23-24
The prayer’s author is Pastor Rick Warren. While it is specific in addressing fathers, I thought this would be good for all our devotional readers. Essentially insert your name into the prayer. My hope is that it reminds us that we have two commandments from God – Love God and Love Neighbor, the latter being any who enter our sphere of experience.
The Psalmist reminds us that if we seek to walk in His ways, even when we stumble His love upholds us – always,
May we be reflections of Jesus!
Dear God,
You have said reverence for God gives a man deep strength, and what we need today are men with deep strength. Help us to build our firm foundation on Jesus Christ.
When everybody else is running the race for acquisitions, achievements, accomplishments, and appearance, help us to remember that what matters most is love—to love You and to love our wives, our kids, our families, our friends, and even our enemies.
Help us to remember, Jesus, that you said our care for others is the measure of our greatness. Help us to give our lives away and learn what it means to really live. We realize that everything else is going to pass away, but the man who does the will of God will live forever.
Most importantly, we pray You give all men a new sense of courage—the courage to stand alone, be a man of honor, be strong, and do everything in love.
We pray this blessing in Your name. Amen
