Faith Over Fear
I will fear no evil, for you are with me. . .. Psalm 23:4
This morning, I am praying for the people of Maui due to the horrific wildfires, the people of Ukraine and the Middle East with increasing tensions and the threat of war. With all that is going on in this crazy world it is hard not to be afraid.
In the scriptures we read that “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). And the Lord Himself tells us numerous times to not fear but have faith.
Do you at times struggle with the tension between our faith and fear?
I’ve heard it said that faith and fear cannot exist at the same time. Yet, I know many faithful people who are nervous, even afraid of what’s happening in their lives and in this world.
God doesn’t promise that we won’t ever be in frightening situations. But He does ask us to trust Him all the time. Even if a situation we are in goes terribly wrong, we are still children of God, He loves us and will never forsake us. Our destiny is in His hands, and He is ultimately in control.
In the face of the unknown, believe that God is leading us. We might be afraid, but we can still have faith. Believe that we can have peace in a chaotic world by the power of the Holy Spirit. Believe that nothing can extinguish the Light of Christ, that continually shines in the darkest night.
Lord, we pray for Your help and protection for all who are suffering due to war, natural disasters, poverty, and illness. Touch them with Your power and love. Help us to trust in You even in the most frightening circumstances, we cling to You, the One who will not let us go. Amen.
