When We Say "Help Me"

God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church.
Ephesians 1:22

My great-nephew, a toddler, has learned the power of saying, “Help me” when he needs assistance. Each time he asks, a loving adult is only too happy to lend a hand.

“Help” is also a dominant word in the language of faith. From today's Scripture reading we learn that Jesus is exalted higher than all the powers in the universe. God has given His Son the highest position of authority in the cosmos. This is why praying, “Help me” is so amazing. The most remarkable thing about our prayers is that they go immediately to the highest heavenly realm where Christ is seated. The prayer of every believer is heard by the King of the whole universe.

Perhaps you remember seeing the iconic photo of John F Kennedy, Junior under his father’s desk in the oval office. We have an even more intimate relationship with Christ. Amazing as that sounds, we have a far greater privilege that is ours to enjoy every time we pray. We get to speak directly to the Lord of creation.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for being our King who hears all our prayers. In all of the struggles we face in life, may we always turn to You for help. In Your name we pray! Amen.
