But I’m Just a Nobody

“As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you….Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:5,9

ME: Jesus, early this morning in my own devotion time, these words stopped me!

JESUS: I noticed that. But why?

ME: Well, Moses was a great man, with a HUGE job to do. He had a big purpose. There were millions of people involved. Joshua also was a mighty man; and Daniel, David, Esther, and the list goes on and on. I am just Mo Johnston. Hardly a person to be compared to any of these.

JESUS: Dear child of Mine, herein lies the problem. You are comparing yourself to others again. Yes, they were created with a specific plan but it took them months or even years to figure out what they were to do. My Father had to speak to them several times to get their attention. But they did eventually listen and they accomplished great things by following directions, with His power.

ME: But You have not given me a job that big.

JESUS: Be grateful!

ME: I want to make a difference in the world in the short time I have left.

JESUS: What makes you think you have not already done so?

ME: Today, Moses would have been some kind of world leader – as well as the rest of them. The news would have plastered him all over various media and the paparazzi would be having a field day.

JESUS: Is that really what you want?

ME: Heaven’s no! I’m just saying that he fulfilled a big challenge. It says as “I was with Moses, so shall I be with you.” You had to be with him because he never could have pulled this off without You. But how do You see each of us commoners?

JESUS: More faulty thinking! You are My adopted child and I treasure you. Common? Hardly! After years of running from Me, you finally settled and let children into your life. Others became doctors, nurses, writers, construction workers—all with a definite purpose. None are common!

ME: I feel unworthy sometimes.

JESUS: Well, you are and that is where My grace comes into play. You and Moses can have a nice long chat someday.

ME: I can’t wait to meet him! Wait…How will I recognize him?

JESUS: (Silence)
