Temporary or Eternal?

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18

Have we figured out what is temporary and what is eternal? I’m sure that many have been forced to make decisions based on those two words. When I read my devotion (Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling) today, I sat back and pondered these words. Those two words can get so mixed up in our world today. Here is what Sarah had to say. Jesus is clearly calling to us.

I am with you and for you. You face nothing alone—nothing! When you feel anxious, know that you are focusing on the visible world and leaving Me out of the picture. The remedy is simple. Fix your eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. Verbalize your trust in Me, the Living One who sees you always. I will get you safely through this day and all your days. But you can find Me only in the present. Each day is a precious gift from My Father. How ridiculous to grasp for future gifts when today’s is set before you! Receive today’s gift gratefully, unwrapping it tenderly and delving into its depths. As you savor, this gift you find is Me.

We do want the eternal things but being a human being and living in February 2025 is not easy. The world calls to us daily in ever so many ways. Ads and social media give mixed messages. We want. We need. We can’t live without. We desire.

Wait! What do we desire these days? Is it temporary or eternal? Now that is something to ponder!

Eye Hath Not Seen

Gracious God, thank You for being with us every step of this day. Teach us to trust You more and plant in our hearts the deepest desire for the eternal things. AMEN.
