The Wolves of Worry

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:33-34 (ESV)

ME: Jesus, why do I worry about things?

JESUS: That is a great question. In your own mind, how would you answer?

ME: Well, I let little issues become huge and suddenly, there a pack of worry wolves is at my emotional door.

JESUS: You have not satisfied the ‘why’ of your original query. Dig deeper and talk to Me. You are answering with human logic but I want You to think with your heart—not your head. Do not give me superficial fluff. I am ready to listen.

ME: Ouch! I do not know how to begin. I watched my mother…

JESUS: Stop! That was then and this is now.

ME: Okay! (Deep breath) I don’t think that You will fix all the issues that cause me anxiety. So, I guess the bottom line is that I don’t trust You completely. I even worry that You will laugh at some of my concerns. You probably don’t but I still feel uneasy. Is that better?

JESUS: Yes! You have finally been honest. Now let Me be honest with you. I know your uneasiness and apprehension about every situation. Yet, you do not share them with Me. Why is that? What are you afraid of? Could it be that you do not think I will respond? You are concerned because you have it all figured out in your human mind, but I am not limited to your resolution. You are afraid to trust Me with your whole heart. You give me a little room but not full access.

ME: Wow! Jesus, You do know my thoughts. I am not always afraid of You but sometimes—like now—I feel uneasy.

JESUS: Good! That means you are thinking about Me with your heart. My precious child, I will never hurt you or leave your side. However, trust remains an issue for you. Come and talk to Me. You will find that the wolves of worry will high-tail it and you will be left in peace—My peace.

ME: So how do I get started?

JESUS: (laughing) You just did!
