What Day Is It?
So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12 (ESV)
Where does the time go? How has this Easter season progressed to this point? Sunday was Palm Sunday and to be honest, I am just not ready. Neither my mind nor heart are there. What happened?
The media has made it known that Easter is rapidly approaching. The flower sales at church, baskets, the Cadbury Easter bunny, new clothes to purchase etc., yet I have not felt spiritual. I can’t blame it on being too busy because that would not be truthful. What stands in the way?
Life gets in the way! The events of each day cause us to falter, become anxious, and if we are not careful, we become empty and lost. We tend to put other things before Jesus instead of including Him in our events. Probably more than half of the time, He would say: “You’re meddling again. This is none of your business. Let Me be your focus.” If I would only ask and listen, He would guide me to a better day.
Our time is in His hands. None of us know the number of days remaining but, in those days, we can certainly recognize what day it is—the day to be thankful, sing praises, and to be in continuous prayer. Every day should be spent sharing God’s love with others and for that no one needs a calendar. This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24). This day, right here and now—no matter what is going on.
Our joyful attitude as we greet each morning will determine the outcome of our day. I love the idea that we can restart our day whenever we choose. We can stop, take a deep breath, and change our minds and hearts. It is in those moments that we gain wisdom.
While I did not feel very faithful at the beginning of this devotion, I have done an about face. I am so grateful that God allows U-turns.
Whatever you are facing, Jesus had to face a lot more. Give Him your burdens and see what He will do!
Almighty Father, thank You for Your words that put life into perspective. Please help us to keep our focus where it belongs—on You. AMEN.
