Can We Talk?
Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (ESV)
ME: Jesus, I have so many questions about Holy Week but I’m feeling awkward in asking You.
JESUS: My child, you are not alone. You are bold to seek answers. Ask away.
ME: You didn’t come into Jerusalem as royalty, but riding a donkey. You were/are a King. Why didn’t You enter as one?
JESUS: That was not my purpose to assume the role of an earthly king. Mine was to come in humility and serve as the King of kings. They could not grasp that concept.
ME: When You were arrested, weren’t You afraid? You knew what was going to happen and yet You did it.
Jesus: I did it for you, dear one! The human side of Me asked My Father to remove this cup from Me and spare me the pain I knew I would have to endure. But I love you so very much that I would have it no other way.
ME: Jesus, I don’t know what to say. Thank You seems so foolish.
JESUS: Your heart says it all. I know you have more questions for Me.
ME: Well, did You feel embarrassed or angry or abandoned while all this was going on? They hung You, the Son of God, naked on a cross. All the priests and pharisees had lied about You. Most all Your close friends had run away or denied Your relationship. What were You thinking during those days. Things went from bad to worse. Didn’t You feel anything?
JESUS: Yes, I felt physical, emotional, and spiritual pain—very real, agonizing pain. You must understand this was My purpose while on this earth. I was sent to die for your sins. Regardless of the pain, I knew what was on the other side of my physical death. As the scriptures said, I could not be held in the grave.
ME: Oh, Jesus, I am so grateful! I don’t know what to say. But where were You on Saturday?
JESUS: My body was in the tomb, and for now, that’s all you need to know.
ME: OK, I am overwhelmed with the love You make available to mankind and to me. I sing praises to Your name.
JESUS: Yes, I know your thoughts. Share this Holy week with others that they too might come to know Me better. And, precious one, I appreciate your boldness!
