Tiny Purple Blooms
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Mark 13:31 (NIV)
Up here in Arnot, PA, the weather is at least three weeks behind the Limerick St. James area. We have little green plants sticking up about an inch or two—but that is it. We know spring is here because the cardinals (who remain silent in winter) are calling their mates. It’s happening but oh, so slowly. Heidi Gaul (Mornings with Jesus) has a timely message for us.

The crocuses are blooming. Every year, these small flowers rise up through the frost and snow to brighten our yard. Their petals open to the elements, braving—and seemingly enjoying—the cold and wet weather. They spread the good news: spring is coming. Looking at them, I smile. They know something I tend to forget during the dead of winter. The temperatures will warm. Birds will nest. The seasons will change just as they always have.
How can these tiny purple blooms make such a difference in my attitude. They arrive when I need them most and stay until other flowers make their appearance. Spring and summer come, and the garden explodes with color. But as autumn passes and the trees cast off their leaves, I remember my crocuses and what they mean to me.
Like the crocus corms hidden under the soil, waiting for the right time to cheer me, Jesus’s words come to mind when I need them most. Jesus will return in His chosen time, when the world’s seasons have all run their course. For now, I remember Him, the words He spoke, and the promises He made. How could one man make such a difference in my life? Like the crocus that spreads the good news, Jesus is the good news. But unlike those little flowers, Jesus and His Word are more than seasonal; they’re with me for eternity.
FAITH STEP: Next fall, plant a corm, or bulb. When tending it, remember that Jesus’ words, like the bulb, are hidden inside of you and available when you need them.
Gracious God, thank You for all Your promises. Help us remember that they are all true and You will always be there for us. Please teach us how to trust You more and more. AMEN.
