Our Only Hope
But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and has made the Lord his hope and confidence. Jeremiah 17:7 (TLB)
Trust is not always easy for me! Throughout my younger years, I made some exceptionally unwise decisions. I put my trust is money, jobs, and several toxic relationships. This was all done as I desperately searched for something (love) I already had. I just didn’t believe it. This short devotion by Anitia Higman (How God Grows a Woman of Hope) gave me some fresh insight. For many years, I was the little boat. After being battered and beaten by the storms, I was rescued and revived many times—but then I’d drift away again. I am living proof that He will gently bring us back to that quiet inlet cover and anchor us safely with trust.

After much rocking and tugging, the rope that kept the little boat secured to the dock eventually came untethered. No one paid any attention to the vessel as it bobbed and drifted ever so slowly away from its safe harbor inside the quiet inlet cove and into the deep waters of the lake. After a while, a storm rose up, and some serious winds and waves made the vessel dip and pitch like it was a mere toy. With no one in sight to bring it home, the little craft was in danger of slamming against the rocks and capsizing.
Sometimes when we’re not paying attention, we too can come untethered spiritually as we give in to temptation and sin. Even as Christians, we can get ourselves into some serious trouble. Fortunately, we always have Someone to bring us home. Always. May we put our trust in the Lord Jesus. May we seek His lavish forgiveness and His loving Presence. May we cling to the One who is our greatest hope.
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the hope You’ve given us in Christ Jesus. We choose to trust in You always but we fall short. Forgive us. Please give us the desire to stay anchored in You. Amen.
