A Dose of Humor
Genesis 21:6 And Sarah declared, "God has brought me laughter. All who hear about this will laugh with me.
Laughter is a gift from God. Its benefits are well known for body and soul. It can happen when being told by God of a miracle; as when Abraham and Sarah—well past child bearing age—were told that they were to have a son. Interestingly, he was named Isaac which means ‘laughter.’ Or it may happen when an innocent mistake is made.
Some examples of church bulletins:
The ladies of the church have cast off clothing of every kind, and they can be seen in the church basement Friday afternoon.
Sam Bair and Sue Carter were married on Oct. 12 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in school days.
For those who have children and don’t know it, we have a nursery downstairs.
This being Easter Sunday, we’ll ask Mrs. Dee to come forward and lay an egg on the altar.
The choir will meet at the Fane house for fun and sinning.
Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our church and community.
To make it possible for everyone to attend church next Sunday, we are going to have a special “No Excuse Sunday.” Cots will be placed in the foyer for those who say, “Sunday is my only day to sleep in,” and lounge chairs for those who feel that our pews are too hard.
Eye drops will be available for those with tired eyes from watching TV late Saturday night. We will have steel helmets for those who say, “The roof would cave in if I ever came to church.” Blankets will be furnished for those who think the church is too cold and fans for those who say it is too hot.
One section will be devoted to trees and grass for those who like to seek God in nature. Doctors and nurses will be in attendance for those who plan to be sick on Sunday. The sanctuary will be decorated with both Christmas poinsettias and Easter lilies for those who never have seen the church without them. We will provide hearing aids for those who can’t hear the preacher and cotton for those who can.
I’ve seen worse mistakes in bulletins but those should hold us for a while. Since we don’t have printed bulletins, bloopers of this kind won’t happen. So, find reasons to laugh every day. It will put a silver lining around most clouds in your life.
