The Beauty and Wonder He Has Created
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalm 19:1
Summer vacation for us has traditionally been a trip to the beach with extended family. This tradition was interrupted the last couple of years because of – well you know, the Covid issue. We really missed spending time visiting our favorite spots on the Delaware shore, but we will restart the tradition again this year!
For me the beach is a place that allows me to shed the “world” for a little while. I love getting up to see the sunrises and follow the beauty of a sunset. On a clear night there’s majesty in seeing all the stars and the glow of the moon on the water. Hearing the waves breaking reminds me of God’s power and the perfection of His design.
There’s a restorative power from the time spent in God’s creation. I can just feel God’s call to slow down and enjoy the beautiful coastal gift He has provided. And though it is a little sad to return to the day-to-day world after a week on the beach, I do come away with new memories and experiences of each visit – and I begin to anticipate my return the following year. The peacefulness is in a way transforming. Stress takes a break, ushering in a more tranquil feeling. I marvel at God’s creation, but I also feel God’s love and His urging me to just relax in the moment.
But that’s not to say the beach is the only place to take time to let God’s marvelous creation bring about the same restorative peace. Wherever it works for you, find time to be in His creation. While the world can be messy and difficult, God’s creation still demonstrates His glory and majesty. Nature has a way of declaring to us that God has and will always provide for us. Nature reminds us that God is always nearby. His love for us is deeper than the oceans He created. The more I’ve come to know God, the more I have grown to appreciate creation.
Heavenly Father, Your creation is full of majesty and mystery. I pray that each day, wherever I am, the Holy Spirit will stir my heart to discover Your amazing love and grace in nature all around me. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
