Amid All Dangers
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:4
The theme of Psalm 91 is about God’s protection for His children amid danger. He is the One who delivers us from the “fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence,” both in the natural realm and in the spiritual realm.
We certainly live in a world with enough chaos and challenges. God doesn’t promise a world free from danger, but He does promise His help whenever we find ourselves swirling in the chaos. Even when we have doubts or our faith teeters under all sorts of pressures, He has promised to be faithful to deliver us.
Here the Lord is likened to a bird whose wings of protection overshadow us and whose strong-arm guards us when danger approaches. The enemy comes in many ways and by many means to attack our faith and trust in God. Yet God will never fail us nor forsake us. It is by grace through faith that we are saved, and it is also by grace through faith that we are to live, moment by moment, and day by day.
On those days when it’s challenging to remember this truth I fall back to a verse from Ephesians. The verse is Ephesians 2:8 – “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
Lord, thank You for being my rock and shield no matter what circumstances invade my life. I know that You only allow trials to challenge me to the extent that they are for my eternal good and the glory of Your name. I pray that I may draw closer to You each day and abide under Your protective wings of love. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.
